Montella è un paese in provincia di Avellino ed è sovrastato da una montagna dove sorge il santuario di S. Salvatore. Nell’occasione della festa della SS. Trinità - che per essere mobile cade tra la fine di Maggio e la metà di Giugno, tra la Pentecoste e il CorpusDomini- le dodici congreghe di Montella partecipano tutte insieme ad una manifestazione religiosa. In altre circostanze esse si mostrano in pubblico singolarmente, per esempio quando festeggiano il Santo della corporazione e quando partecipano ai riti funebri per i propri soci. Alla giornata, nel calendario liturgico dedicata ad onorare la SS.Trinità, i montellesí, come individui e come gruppi, sono particolarmente votati, perché è per essi una data storica, da ricordare con fervore e partecipazione si racconta che il 1779 fu un anno in balia della siccità. La sera del 25 Maggio dello stesso anno gli abitanti di Montella decisero di portare processionalmente a Montella il simulacro di S.Salvatore posto all’interno del santuario. Trasportare la statua del Salvatore dalla montagna (m. 954) non era facile, per mancanza di strada e per lontananza dal paese. Le cronache raccontano che il giorno 28 la processione col simulacro raggiunse la“Collegiata” (la chiesa principale e centrale di Montella, dove oggi si svolge la sfilata delle congreghe). La sera del 30 Maggio, giorno in cui quell’anno si celebrava la SS:Trinità, dopo intense preghiere finalmente si mise a piovere:alla carestia subentrò la più abbondante raccolta». Montella, nella festa della Trinità, a ricordo della sua intensa vita religiosa, continua a realizzare il suo splendido carosello delle congreghe facendo sfilare dodici associazioni di cavalieri della fede. La processione col Salvatore, preceduto dalle dodici consorterie con tanto di stendardi e di soci ammantati da vistose cappe, dura due giorni, perché deve passare davanti a tutte le case del paese. Assistere al sacro torneo montellese è, come per incanto, sgranare le cortine dei secoli e vedere un autentico ed incontaminato spettacolo di vita vissuta, con tutti i suoi risvolti antropologici, di cultura, di ambiente, di epoche e di temperamenti. The parade of Congregation
Montella is a little town in the municipality of Avellino. Close to the village, there is the mountain where the Sanctuary of San Salvatore was built. On the occasion of the festival of the Holy Trinity –which, in order to be mobile, occurs between the end of May and the middle of June, between Pentecost and the Corpus Domini – the twelve congregations of Montella take part to a religious celebration. In other circumstances, these congregations show themselves singularly in public, for instance when they celebrate the Saint for each corporation, or when they participate at their members’ funerals. The inhabitants of Montella are deeply devoted to this day, which is dedicated to the Holy Trinity in the liturgical calendar, because that is a very important date to remember with enthusiasm and participation. It is said that in the year 1779 the drought occurs. In the same year, in the evening of the 25th of May, the inhabitants decided to personally carry in Montella the simulacra of San Salvatore, which was into the Sanctuary. It was note asy to carry the Saint’s statue from the mountain up to the town, because there was no road and the town was very far. It is said that, on the 28th, the procession, which was carrying the simulacra, arrived at the “Collegiata” (the main church in Montella, where the parade of congregations places today). On the 30th of May, which was the date for the Holy Trinity to be celebrated in that year, after many prayers, rain arrived: the famine was substituted by a very abundant harvesting. Montella continues the celebrations through the passing of twelve associations of the so-called faith chevaliers.The procession with the statue of San Salvatore, which is proceededby the twelve associations, lasts two days, due to the fact that it has to pass over all the houses of the town.
